Cataract Falls Photography Workshop
Saturdays & Sundays 9a – 3p
Available other weekdays by request
Join me for a day at beautiful Cataract Falls where we will photograph the mile long series of waterfalls on Mt Tamalpais. Fresh winter rains can make it very exciting.
Cataract Falls, located on the northeastern slope of Mt Tamalpais in Marin County is a series of seven waterfalls. Situated along a mile and a half trail that climbs 1000′ some flows drop over 70 feet, some dropping in beautiful clear pools.
This workshop will concentrate on challenging light conditions and water movement for digital DSLR (35mm style) cameras. Everything from macro to wide angle photographic opportunities abound.
- Discuss types of equipment & accessories
- Compositional techniques
- Exposure & depth of field
- Slow water and fast water images
- HDR (High dynamic range)
Limited to 6 participants
Suggested Equipment for this shoot: Bring your tripod and a 14-24mm or similar wide angle lens. A longer focal length (70-200mm) is quite handy as well. Neutral density filters and definitely a circular polarizing filter. A cable release can be very handy, but is not necessary.
Definitely wear quality footwear and consider wet and slippery conditions with spray.
The trail is steep and wet, but it will be a leisurely pace. A good walking stick for support can be very handy. A snack and hydration is recommended as well.
